The Association of Brazilian Planetariums (ABP) was founded on October 27, 1996, during the 1st Brazilian School of Astronomy, held at the Campinas Planetarium, between 25 and 28 October 1996. On occasion the ABP by-laws and standing rules were approved, and its first elected Board and its Audit Committee.
Forty-three people, including representatives of Planetariums, Observatories, Museums and Astronomical Societies and Associations, attended the founding meeting of ABP.
With the primary objective of bringing planetarians together and becoming a bridge for information exchange and inter-institutional collaboration, the ABP held fourteen meetings so far with an increasingly active participation.
Since 2007, ABP is a proud affiliate of the International Planetarium Society.
